What Carpentry Covers at VixFix
Finish Carpentry, Done the Right Way
Carpentry is one of those trades where the difference between a working result and a great result lives in the last sixteenth of an inch. A miter that's almost tight still reads as a gap from across the room. A baseboard that follows a wavy floor with no scribe shows every dip. A door that swings on a jamb that's a hair out of plumb closes funny for the next twenty years. The craft is in the details, and VixFix takes those details seriously on every job.
At VixFix, carpentry means interior finish carpentry across New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts. Justin Vickery handles trim work, crown molding, baseboards, window and door casing, custom shelving, built-in cabinetry, pre-hung and slab door installation, and the smaller structural repairs that show up during renovations. We do not frame new houses or pour foundations, but if your project involves what you actually see and touch on the inside of a room, you are in the right place.
Most carpentry calls we field fall into one of three buckets: a homeowner refreshing a tired room with new trim and a coat of paint, a renovation where rough framing is done and the finish work is what's left, or a punch list of squeaky doors, loose handrails, and miscellaneous millwork that has been adding up for years. Justin can handle one square of trim, an entire main floor of moldings, or a built-in wall unit that becomes the centerpiece of a living room.

Carpentry Services We Provide
Trim Carpentry
Window casings, door casings, chair rail, picture rail, and decorative trim packages. Tight miters, scarfed joints on long runs, and nails set and filled so paint goes on without telegraphing.
Crown Molding
Single piece and built-up crown installed on level chalk lines, coped inside corners where it counts, and scribed to wavy plaster ceilings so the line stays clean all the way around the room.
Baseboard Installation
New baseboard runs, replacement after flooring work, or upgrades from short builder-grade base to taller, more substantial profiles. Scribed to floors that have settled with age.
Built-In Shelving
Living room built-ins around a fireplace, office wall units, mudroom benches with cubbies, and closet build-outs. Designed to look like they were always part of the house, not bolted on.
Door Installation
Pre-hung interior doors set plumb and shimmed correctly. Slab swaps when the jamb is sound. Exterior pre-hungs with proper flashing and weatherstripping for New England winters.
Custom Shelving
Floating shelves, pantry shelving, garage storage, and open shelving cut from solid wood or pre-finished panel stock. Fastened into framing so they hold real weight, not just decoration.
Service Area
Where We Work
VixFix is based in Concord, NH and works across most of southern and central New Hampshire, plus a handful of northern Massachusetts towns within reasonable driving distance. Carpentry projects in particular travel well because the work is contained to interior rooms and does not depend on weather windows, which means we can take jobs a bit farther afield than weather-sensitive trades.
Regular service area in New Hampshire includes Manchester, Nashua, Concord, Salem, Derry, Bedford, Londonderry, and Merrimack, along with surrounding communities like Hooksett, Goffstown, Pembroke, Hampstead, Pelham, Windham, Hudson, and Amherst.
In northern Massachusetts we regularly serve Lowell, Haverhill, Methuen, Andover, North Andover, Dracut, and Tewksbury. If you are not sure whether your town is within range, call and ask. Trim jobs and built-ins are worth the drive for the right project.
Carpentry projects we have completed across the area run the full range: simple closet shelving in a starter home in Manchester, a wall of office built-ins in a Bedford colonial, crown molding throughout a main floor in Concord, and door replacements across a multi-family rental in Nashua. Every one starts with a site visit, a discussion of what you want the finished room to look like, and a written estimate before any work begins.
Have a look at the related service pages for more on the trades that often pair with carpentry on a project: drywall repair to clean up around new trim, and interior painting to finish the room after the moldings go up. Pricing Ranges
What Carpentry Costs
Every project gets a written, flat-price estimate after a site visit, but the ranges below give a realistic sense of what carpentry work runs in New Hampshire in 2026. These figures include materials and labor for typical conditions. Unusual species, custom profiles, or significant prep work can push numbers higher, and we will say so up front.
- Baseboard and trim: $4 to $12 per linear foot installed, depending on profile height, material (MDF, primed pine, hardwood), and whether old trim has to come off first. Tall, profiled trim sits at the top of the range; standard 3 1/4 inch base sits at the lower end.
- Crown molding: $7 to $18 per linear foot installed. Built-up crown with multiple components, or runs on ceilings out of level, push toward the upper end. A standard 12 by 14 living room typically lands between $600 and $1,400.
- Door installation: $250 to $500 per pre-hung interior door installed, including basic casing. Slab-only swaps with no jamb change run $150 to $300. Exterior pre-hungs, with proper flashing and weatherstripping, run $700 to $1,500.
- Built-in shelving: Most living-room built-ins around a fireplace land between $2,500 and $7,500, depending on size, doors, drawers, and finish. Office wall units and closet build-outs follow a similar curve. Quoted per project.
- Custom shelving: Simple floating shelves start around $150 to $300 per shelf installed. A full pantry build-out runs $800 to $2,500 depending on depth, height, and material.
- Punch-list carpentry: Small repairs (loose handrail, sticking door, missing piece of trim) are billed at an hourly rate with a one-hour minimum. Many homeowners batch a list of small items into one visit for efficiency.
Pricing here is a starting point, not a quote. If your project is unusual, in an older home with non-standard conditions, or paired with other trades, ranges shift. The estimate after a site visit is what counts.
Why VixFix
Local, Honest, Accountable
Tight Miters, Clean Reveals
The visible details on a carpentry project are what people notice. Justin takes time to cut, fit, and adjust until joints close tight and reveals stay consistent all the way around the room.
One Person, One Job
Justin handles the work himself, from layout through final fastening and filler. No handing the room off to a junior installer halfway through. One person accountable for the whole result.
EPA Lead-Safe Certified
Carpentry in pre-1978 homes regularly involves pulling trim, baseboards, and doors that have multiple layers of paint, paint that often contains lead. Justin is EPA Lead-Safe Certified and follows the required safe work practices for renovation, repair, and painting in older houses. Dust gets contained, surfaces get cleaned properly, and the home is safe to live in during and after the work.
Transparent Pricing
Flat written estimates before work starts. No vague time-and-materials surprises. You know the price before Justin picks up a miter saw.
How It Works
Our Carpentry Process
Free Estimate
Justin visits the site, measures the room, looks at the existing trim or door conditions, and discusses materials and profiles. You get a written, flat-price estimate, usually within 24 hours of the visit.
Schedule the Work
Once the estimate is approved, we schedule a start date that works for you. Most carpentry projects land within one to two weeks of approval; larger built-ins may need a bit more lead time to source materials.
Execute the Project
Materials arrive, the room gets protected with drop cloths and dust containment, and the work begins. Justin shows up on time, keeps the site clean at the end of each day, and communicates if anything unexpected comes up.
Walkthrough
When the work is done, we walk the room together, check every joint, every reveal, every door swing, and address anything that is not right before the job is closed out. You should love the result, not just accept it.
