Frequently Asked
Questions

Everything homeowners ask before hiring VixFix — licensing, estimates, timing, warranty, and how we work. Still have questions? Call 603-202-5309.

Credentials & Coverage

Are you licensed and insured?
VixFix is fully insured and a lead safe certified firm. Owner and operator Justin Vickery is a direct EPA lead safe certified technician. We work exclusively with subcontractors who carry licenses where required in the state of New Hampshire and maintain liability insurance appropriate to their trade. In New Hampshire, licensing requirements vary by trade — plumbing, electrical, and utility hookups are the types of work that require licensing, and for those we only partner with properly licensed and insured specialists. Certificates of insurance are available on request before any work begins.
Are you bonded and carry workers' compensation?
Yes — we maintain general liability coverage, a surety bond for larger contracted projects, and workers' compensation for anyone on your property. Documentation is available on request before the job begins.

Service Area & Availability

What areas does VixFix serve?
VixFix is based in Concord, NH and regularly works throughout New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts — from the Lakes Region down through Manchester, Nashua, and Salem into MA border towns. If you're within about an hour of Concord, you're covered. See our full service area list.
How quickly can you start my project?
Most estimates require approximately 24 hours for turnaround, depending on the complexity and scope of the work — though simpler jobs often come back faster. Non-emergency projects typically get scheduled within 1–2 weeks. For active water damage or urgent safety issues, we aim for same-day or next-day service.
Do you handle emergency repairs?
Yes — active water damage, failing exterior work, and urgent safety issues get same-day or next-day response whenever possible. Call 603-202-5309 directly for anything time-sensitive.

Estimates & Payment

Do you offer free estimates?
Absolutely. Every estimate is free, no-obligation, and in writing so you can compare bids confidently. We walk the project with you, explain our approach, and give you straightforward pricing — no high-pressure tactics.
What are your payment terms — deposits and financing?
For smaller projects, payment is due on completion. For larger contracted work, we typically take a deposit at signing (usually 25–35%), a progress payment mid-project, and the balance on final walk-through. We're happy to discuss payment scheduling that works for your budget.

Project Scope

What's the minimum job size you'll take on?
We don't have a hard minimum — small repairs, single-room painting, and handyman-style projects are all welcome. If a job takes less than a couple of hours, we'll give you honest guidance on whether it makes sense to call us or tackle it yourself.
What's the difference between handyman work and contracted projects?
Handyman work is typically small, quick tasks — mounting a TV, repairing a leak, patching drywall, odd fixes. Contracted projects are bigger: full repaints, flooring installs, water damage restoration, cement work. We do both, and the same quality standard applies either way.
Do you use subcontractors or do the work in-house?
Most of our work is done in-house by Justin and his direct team. For specialty trades like major electrical panel work or heavy plumbing reroutes, we partner with licensed subcontractors we know and trust — and we stand behind their work as if it were our own.

Materials, Permits & Warranty

What materials and brands do you use?
We use professional-grade brands builders rely on — DeWalt, Milwaukee, and Makita for tools; Benjamin Moore, Sherwin-Williams, and Behr for paint; premium hardwood, drywall, and cement suppliers sourced locally. When you want a specific brand, just let us know and we'll match your preference.
Who pulls permits for the work?
For projects that require permits — structural work, electrical panel changes, plumbing re-routes, significant exterior work — we handle the pull and coordinate inspections. Smaller cosmetic jobs (painting, flooring, furniture repair) typically don't require permits. We'll tell you upfront what applies.
Do you offer a warranty on your workmanship?
Yes — all workmanship is warranted for one year from completion. If anything we did isn't holding up as it should, call us and we'll come back and make it right. Materials carry the manufacturer's warranty separately.

On the Job

How should I prepare for a contractor visit?
For an estimate visit, just clear basic access to the area we'll be working in and think through any questions or preferences you have. For the actual project, we'll give you a short prep checklist ahead of time — usually just moving valuables out of the space and securing pets.
How do you protect my home and handle cleanup?
We use drop cloths, plastic sheeting, and floor protection for every job, and we vacuum, broom, and take all debris with us when we leave. Our goal: when we're done, the only thing you should notice is the finished work — not that we were there.
